Crime Writing Panel

Event Type: Authors Talk

David Mark is a brilliant writer who has a deft and light touch, combining characters who have a whiff of anarchy and a tenderness that rises to the surface like one of Aector McAvoy’s blushes, with class A observation of the little glances, colours and things moving in the background that surprise and delight. The books are set in Hull and Mark spent more than fifteen years as a journalist, including seven years as a crime reporter with the Yorkshire Post, walking those same Hull streets that now serve as his hunting grounds.

He has written five novels in the McAvoy series, Dark Winter, Original Sin, Sorrow Bound, Taking Pity and now Dead Pretty. Dark Winter was selected for the Harrogate New Blood panel, and was a Richard & Judy pick and a Sunday Times bestseller. He and his family live just outside the city.

Nick Quantrill was born and raised in Hull. His Joe Geraghty trilogy of crime novels are published by Caffeine Nights. The Dead Can’t Talk follows in May 2016. A prolific short story writer, Nick’s work has appeared in various volumes of The Mammoth Book of Best British Crime.
